The Iron Triangle was a 120 square mile area in the Binh Duong Province of Vietnam.
A stronghold of Viet Cong and NVA activity during the Vietnam war, the region
was under the control of the communist North Vietnamese - despite concerted efforts
on the part of US and South Vietnamese forces to destabilize the region as a power base
for their enemy. Located approximately 20 miles northwest of Saigon,
it was like a dagger pointed at the heart of South Vietnam. Its location was why
the Americans and South Vietnamese wanted to eradicate it,
but also why it was such a crucial area for Communist forces to control.
